An upgraded intake system is critical when looking to optimize the performance of your twin-turbocharged Audi B9/B9.5 RS4 or RS5. The factory intake system consists of a restrictive paper filter housed in a small, enclosed airbox that requires frequent replacement. This airbox is then connected with a corrugated plastic hose to the insufficiently sized turbo inlet, causing turbulence and further restriction as air travels through the factory intake system.
The factory turbo inlet has a peak internal diameter of 66mm at the opening, which is quickly split in half and divided between the two turbochargers evenly. Because of this design, the cross-sectional area for airflow through the factory turbo inlet is reduced, resulting in inadequate airflow and lower velocity as air enters the turbochargers. This design was likely engineered this way for cost-savings to keep manufacturing costs lower.
When your turbochargers generate boost under acceleration, they need ample airflow to meet the target boost level commanded by the ECU—regardless of the intake or turbochargers installed. If a restrictive intake, such as the factory system, is installed, it can cause airflow deficiencies that force the ECU must compensate to maintain the target turbocharger boost levels. This is typically achieved by increasing the Wastegate Duty Cycle (WGDC), which puts additional demand on the turbochargers to reach those target boost levels. Much like sucking air in through a straw, you will find it easier to suck in more air through a larger straw as opposed to a smaller, more restrictive straw. Similarly, the turbochargers must work extra hard to make up for this lack of airflow.
As the turbochargers work harder, they generate higher compressor and exhaust turbine temperatures, resulting in hotter turbochargers and intake temperatures.
These inefficiencies and restrictions that the turbochargers must overcome and compensate for due to an insufficient intake system can reduce your engine's power output and generate increased heat, whether your RS4 or RS5 is stock, tuned, or utilizes upgraded hybrid turbochargers.

The X34 Intake Systems & SüperDüper Insuction Bundle houses a high-flow conical 5" Air Filter with a double-layer pleated cotton filtration medium capable of trapping particles as small as 5 Microns. This air filter design offers increased flow through an enlarged filtration surface while ensuring superior filtration. Tested in applications exceeding 1000HP, this filter delivers minimal restriction and OEM-quality air filtration. With over 2,000 CFM of airflow capacity, this air filter ensures unrestricted performance for RS4s and RS5s equipped with the X34 Intake Systems & SüperDüper Insuction Bundle. This air filter is also able to be washed and cleaned utilizing the 034Motorsport Air Filter Cleaning Kit, allowing for lower maintenance costs compared to the factory intake system.
The air filter is seamlessly connected to the factory or SüperDüper Turbo Inlet through a carbon fiber inlet transition pipe, ensuring a smooth transition of airflow into the turbo inlet. This transition pipe is CFD-optimized to further increase the air velocity into the turbo inlet.
The SüperDüper Turbo Inlet offers the ultimate in performance and airflow improvements over the factory turbo inlet. 034Motorsport engineers designed several prototypes, refining each iteration to maximize airflow and air velocity, increase volume, and refine fitment. Starting with a high-definition 3D scan of the engine bay & factory intake system, 034Motorsport engineers begin designing by designing and optimizing the X34 Intake System for precision engineering of fit. Once the intake has taken its basic shape, advanced CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis is utilized to refine the airflow and air velocity of the SüperDüper Turbo Inlet for peak performance. Using rapid prototyping techniques such as 3D printing, 034Motorsport then verified these improvements and further optimized the design with on-car fitment and airflow performance validation with our in-house SuperFlow Test Bench. The resulting SüperDüper Turbo Inlet offers restrictionless flow to the turbochargers and maximized air velocity while offering perfect fit and finish within the engine bay of the RS4 and RS5.
Using CAD software and 3D scanning technology, 034Motorsport optimized the Turbo Inlet's cross-sectional area while being mindful of space constraints. The SüperDüper Turbo Inlet utilizes a massive 100mm internal diameter opening that tapers smoothly to the equally impressive 58mm turbo connections, ensuring optimal airflow to the turbochargers.
Utilizing this CFD modeling and advanced on-vehicle testing with external sensors, 034Motorsport engineers also maximized the efficiency of the PCV connection, ensuring that maximum vacuum is retained for adequate crankcase ventilation. Improper placement of this connection can worsen PCV performance, causing unnecessary pressure imbalance and compromising the operation of the crankcase ventilation system.
Due to the immense size of the Turbo Inlet, 034Motorsport Engineers designed taller 6061-T6 billet aluminum engine cover mounts. These mounts ensure secure fitment of the engine cover without interference, maintaining both performance and a clean, factory-like appearance. 034Motorsport also includes a new oil cap filler surround to ensure a clean and OEM fit with the taller engine cover mounts.
The SüperDüper Turbo Inlet Pipe is mated to 6061-T6 billet aluminum Turbo Adapter Flanges utilizing 4-ply silicone hose. These Turbo Adapter Flanges are specifically designed for each unique turbocharger set to generate a smooth transition of airflow into the turbocharger and enhance airflow velocity. The interchangeable Turbo Adapter Flanges for the stock turbochargers are included with the X34 SüperDüper Insuction Bundle, with optional TTE720 Adapter Flanges available separately.
The adapter flanges make the installation and removal of the SüperDüper Turbo Inlet easier than ever. From the factory, unique and special tools are required to loosen and remove the OE turbo inlet due to the tight space constraints. With these Turbo Adapter Flanges, users can more easily remove the entire intake system with easily accessible hose clamps. You can loosen two hose clamps rather than fight with hidden bolts underneath the intake system!
