Wheel bearings commonly need the be replaced for a number of reasons. However, normal wear and tear is the most common reason. If you rotate your vehicle's wheel and there is a gritty feel or a loud metal to metal noise while driving, you likely need to change your wheel bearings. An easy way to check your wheel bearings is to lift the wheel just off the ground and try to move the tire back and forth, by pushing the top and bottom of the tire in. If there is play, this commonly means the wheel bearing has failed.
