Following on from our huge success in developing intercoolers for the Porsche 996, we just had to take a look at the 1st generation Porsche 997.
Again we started with improving airflow through the intercoolers with the use of enlarged 60mm silicone hoses, and a redesign of the intercooler end tanks. Then with the charge air sorted, we looked at the cooling air that passes over the intercooler. In a similar fashion to the 996 testing showed that the original OEM ducting performed brilliantly so satisfied that it was up to the specification needed we thought we should aim to make a true directly replacement kit, by designing the intercoolers to install perfectly with all the OEM mountings. The new ‘coolers are similar in dimension to the OEM units, but are measurably thicker. The real improvement came with the complete re-design of the intercooler core after testing proved a bar and plate design to be more thermally efficient in this installation.
In tests the Forge unit managed an incredible drop in intake temperature of up to 40° centigrade. It was so dramatic we repeatedly retested and analysed the data, expecting to find we had made a mistake, but with the results substantiated we new this setup would allow the engine to produce more power and torque throughout the rev range , and of course with the engine running cooler, engine longevity should also be improved.
As part of this installation we constructed silicone boost hoses to ensure the overall resistance was kept to a minimum and that the hoses would withstand greater temperatures and pressures. ( available in Black Only )
The use of the original ducting and mountings results in very tidy and efficient install.
